Any Brighton MNers about?

DCs are on half term this week, and we've got Sea Life gift vouchers to use, so I'm planning on taking them down t'coast tomorrow. The last couple of weeks, everything I've planned has gone fairly wrong so I just want know whether there's anything going on in town tomorrow - car parks all closed, massive festival so horrendous traffic, you get my drift I just want to do a fairly hassle free picnic on the beach (or in the car as we seem to be plagued by torrential rain when we do this) wander around going ooooh at the pretty fishies and a leisurely drive home.

Am I going to be knocking back the brandys by this time tomorrow?

I live just outside of Brighton but as far as I know theres nothing big on in the city tomorrow. But be warned if it is a nice day like today then alot of people might have the same idea as you. Maybe travel early so you can find a parking space?

or park out of town and use the buses?

Brighton is quite popular with foreign students this time of year too!

Ooh thanks for replies (almost expected a tumbleweed thread)

Custy'll just swear at me

I figure that it will be busy if it's nice, but not as busy as it would be during proper school holidays (we've got to be pretty much the only school off this week - everyone else was off two weeks ago) I'm more worried that the entire place will be closed or something equally outrageous or unexpected. We were camping in France the week before last, and everything we planned on doing/visiting went wrong in really odd ways (still had a lovely time - I'm just very wary that I've got an evil touch regarding day trips atm )

I live just outside Brighton, nothing that I know of. Absolutely wonderful weather today!! Parking hideously expensive but that's as per normal!

Just a thought, there is an open-top bus that runs to & from devils dyke that might be a fun way to solve parking issue....

dilbertina · 09/06/2008 18:36

ooops, scrub that, just checked and it only runs Sat & Sun at the mo, every day in July and August. sorry.

Hello there.

Nothing major going on tomorrow that I know of- the Brighton Festival finished a week ago now so all is quiet at the moment.

I do know that Britain's Got Talent are on tour in Brighton this week but that's only in the evenings.

Avoid school-time traffic and you should be fine

ShinyPinkShoes · 09/06/2008 18:44

You could drive to Brighton Marina, park in the free car park (make sure you stay right and go right at the roundabout as you turn into the Marina Village).

Then get the Delightful Volk's Railway along to the Sealife Centre, and get it to take you back to collect your car when you're ready to go home.

Have fun

I've broken Brighton and Hove's council website See! I'm jinxed......

That sounds rather nice SPS, I think we might give that a try.

Ta also dilbertina, that sounded good too - I'll bear it in mind though as I'm sure we'll venture down again in the summer holidays

Right I'm hoping tomorrow will run smoothly as I've already had the major upsets before we leave - the gift certifcate things we were given can only be redeemed online, and the tickets are posted so there's no way I can get them for tomorrow. So bollox to that I'm just going to pay instead and we'll save the vouchers for something else. NOTHING ELSE will go wrong...........(watch this space)

Oh nooooo I've got some vouchers here you could have had! Would have met you somewhere to pass them on but am leaving for work at 7am tomorrow

Hope you have a good day anyway x

harpomarx · 09/06/2008 23:28

or get there early and park at Churchill Square shopping centre, reasonably(ish) priced compared to any other car parks. Don't park in any of the NCP car parks unless you're loaded!

serenity · 09/06/2008 23:40

Aw thanks SPS, we're OK. Ive already bought the DSs tickets online, and I'll get DDs one free when I buy my ticket and flash my Legoland pass at them.

Thanks harpomarx, I've looked into the whole Marina/Volks Railway thing and it looks pretty good and I think we'll do that (have programmed it into the Sat Nav as we speak, well type)
