Holiday in New Zealand with a baby

Before I got pregnant we were planning on visting New Zealand. Now I have our baby we are wondering if we can still do this trip when he is approx 7 months old. Does anyone have any experience of travelling to New Zealand on holiday with a baby? Any advice/tips? Also, I saw on line a company which you can hire carseats/travelcots/buggies from that will meet you at the airport. Has anyone used a company like this in NZ that they can recommend?

Hi I travelled to NZ with my ds when he was 7 months, flights were no problem (other than being long....) It was a good time to fly as he wasn't crawling - on the way out anyway - different story on the way back! Pre-book a bassinet on the plane if you can. Otherwise loads of advice available on MN re flying with little ones.

The car hire company I used provided the carseat for a nominal fee.

I would recommend taking your own buggy with you, I think most airlines let you take them up to the gate and then check them on. Invaluable to have the buggy imo for the time before the flight and during the transfer/stopover (esp. if you are flying via the States where you have to do the whole baggage off/baggage on thing).

Travelcots - not sure but I know a lot of motels do provide cots if you ask. Depends really on what sort of accomodation you are planning to use. The NZ Plunket Society might hire out travelcots, could be worth a try.

Hope this isn't too waffly!
