Dos and Do nots?

(I'm staying slightly south west of omonoia but hoping for the best anyway)

Thanks!

I've never been, but was planning to go Nov this year, but do to various work issues, didn't book. I'm thinking of a few days in Dec now. Its off season, so should be cheaper, but otherwise I have no idea about dos and don't.

A hopeful bump for someone that does know though.

I am just back from a week in Athens. As far as I could tell everything was open and we had a great time sight seeing eating and drinking. The main thing I can tell you is that it gets dark early so the days are relatively short and in particular outdoor attractions close early (before sun down). Add in the time difference and we found it hard to get up early (but you might not). Do check out the closed days for the different places you want to visit as well as the opening hours. All the bars and restaurants were busy and outside eating was fine as it was warm enough (though a little colder in the evening).
We had an amazing time and found restaurants reasonable, the food fantastic and the people absolutely lovely. Hope that you have a great time. Happy to answer any specific questions if you have them.

Two slightly random questions actually - did you find the pavements slippery?

And where was the best place you ate??

The pavements were fine but it was slippery on the rocks at the top of the Acropolis (the shiny ones that had been walked on for centuries).
The restaurants were literally all brilliant but one I would recommend for value, quality and variety of food was Scholarhio in the Plaka neighbourhood. They have a sharing menu where you pick a set amount of dishes for the menu depending on the number in your party. We literally could not finish it. Its probably not for purists but has a great atmosphere, a terrace and it was always busy. We also got a recommendation for Souvlaki from a taxi driver. He recommended Thanasis in Monastiraki. The food was very reasonable and there was lovely outdoor seating in a buzzing square. Another option is The President. I believe that its a franchise with several branches around the city. We ate at a branch in the suburbs. The food was again good generous and there was a great atmosphere (we had a sharing platter and it was huge). My last recommendation which is from a UK instagrammer James Dimitri was The Traditional in Monastriki a no frills grill restaurant which was again buzzing. Do look up James if you use instagram as he has an extensive list. I don't know him but some one sent me his link when they knew I was visiting Athens.

I hope that you get to visit some of these places - but don't worry too much as I think its hard to find a bad restaurant.
