Thinking Jan/feb with DH

It depends how you relax. Barbados has lots of snorkeling, retaurants and bars, beachside rum shacks. Smart hotels with pools etc.
The South of the island has more watersports and more 'party' stuff.

Tobago is less smart & quieter but has some stunning golf courses and the most amazing national park with rainforest. Secluded beaches like Englishman's cove. Hire a jeep and explore. Develop a taste for curried crab. 😊

Plenty of islands have adult only resorts.

Which do you prefer?

Budget is relevant

RuncibleSpoons · 16/11/2025 13:04

We usually go to Barbados in February. Beautiful weather. We’re going to Sl Lucia in Feb 26, our first time.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 16/11/2025 14:16

Barbados is very relaxing, we just lie on the beach or by the pool, go to beach side cafes, eat in nice restaurants in the evening or cook very simple food. The West Coast is quiet and very beautiful.

KilliMonjaro · 16/11/2025 15:39

Barbados sounds great as does Tobago! Are there any you’d avoid?

Budget is - looking for a “cheap” package !

I mainly want to relax - am definitely up for some exploring though. First holiday in years without the kids.

Cheap and Barbados don't really go together! I think the South is cheaper but busier/ more touristy.

We do flights and accommodation separately- we book a small villa/ apartment on Air bnb. That way you can do it much cheaper. Last year we went to

It's the cheapest West Coast hotel we could find. We booked direct though.

I had a hellish week in the Dominican Republic. The less expensive end of all inclusive, terrible food that was the same every day, a bad choice of companion and lots of people who were trying to drink their ticket price. People throwing up in flower beds. 🙁 I'd gave that a miss.

You should make a living out of posting reviews like this lol. Yeah DR has never floated my boat

Sorry, I didn't mean to be quite so caustic. Just reliving it for a moment. 😁

Lol, no, I loved your review!

We went to Grenada and stayed in a random cheap hotel near Grande Anse beach. All the cruise shippers and most tourists go there (it's a huge, lovely beach and you can go on snorkelling trips and to see the underwater sculptures) but if you go to Morne Rouge which is just the next cove on it is stunning. I've never seen a beach as quiet or as beautiful as Morne Rouge beach. You can also visit George town, a pretty harbour and chocolate museum and trips to a chocolate plantation, waterfalls and Grande Etang national park. We hired a car and drove around.

St Lucia has lots to do but the beaches aren't as good or are mostly taken over by hotels. Cuba is amazing but not relaxing. Grand Caymen is very easy and relaxing but not much in the way of culture and more expensive. Grenada is the one I'd go back to.

LoudSnoringDog · 16/11/2025 16:56

We went to St Lucia in Feb and loved it so much I did a cheap week there with my DD in Oct half term. Amazing, beautiful island

Nightlight8 · 16/11/2025 17:00

Antigua or St Lucia!

If it's something cheaper I've done 2 weeks at the Royalton in DR and it was paradise.

PurpleDisco · 16/11/2025 17:09

The small island of Anguilla without a doubt is perfect for relaxing! It’s amazingly tranquil with pristine beaches. Antigua is very busy and full of hustle and bustle so not ideal for chilling out, it’s fine for maybe 2 days before getting a short connecting flight on to Anguilla as you do have to fly there first anyway!

Justlovedogs · 16/11/2025 17:14

Just for a week, I'd suggest somewhere with direct flights or you lose too much time travelling. I'm a big fan of Barbados, but it's not necessarily that cheap. You can get deals, though, if you shop around and aren't too fussy on dates.

Tobago.
St Vincent
Dominican Republic

DemonsandMosquitoes · 16/11/2025 17:49

DH was terribly ill in DR many years ago. I got terrible travel sickness in St Lucia (very mountainous). Still love the Caribbean.

Antigua is incredibly relaxing, on account of there not being much to do (in the best possible way).

I’m off to Barbados soon and that looks like it has a lot more going on, so while I expect it to be fun, I don’t imagine it to be as relaxing as Antigua.

PeonyPatch · 16/11/2025 18:38

St Lucia!

cupfinalchaos · 16/11/2025 18:44

We’re on a Caribbean cruise over Xmas and if I’m honest wasn’t my choice as I don’t think there’s much to do in any of the islands!

What sort of things do you usually like to do on holiday?

birdglasspen · 16/11/2025 18:47

Caymen islands although I doubt they are budget. Grenada was good. Also enjoyed Bonaire for the snorkelling. Depends what you want!
