Talk to me about Goa....

DH wants to go, in Dec or Jan.

I think I will find it too hot, and too mosquito-ridden. I am a magnet for them,

It's a very long flight in economy, too, and direct flights are only once a week. I just can't muster up any enthusiasm, even though it will be nice and warm ...

Can anyone recommend an adults only resort that might kickstart my enthusiasm?

Those are the least hot months. I don’t think it’s got loads of mosquitos on the beaches. It’s not that interesting. I’d go to the far more interesting areas like Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Goa is India lite. Not that interesting.

I would go to Kerala instead if it’s the coast you’re wanting to visit. Goa is only interesting inland (and that part of it is not really set up for tourists). The beaches have been ruined by various tribes of tourists (hippies, package holidaymakers, dodgy Russians).

Oh I quite liked Goa . We did a few nights after a tour of India so just relaxed really. No mosquitos in my recollection. We went in February and it was hot .

It’s not really seeing much of the culture of India though. The best is elsewhere and fantastic in Feb!

i think there
must be closer places for a bit of winter warmth. I th I k DH reckons it will be more exotic than it is

It’s barely any more exotic than any other Asian beach area. The exotic is the temples, sights, sounds, culture and (in India) chaos!

Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Cape Verde?

I would go for Goa any day over any of these - can't compare. I love Goa OP. Prefer the south to the north.

Where are you flying from? It’s on my bucket list

I’m considering goa at the end of a week doing the golden triangle - looks lovely 🥰

OhDear111 · 16/11/2025 22:08

The historical sites in Egypt are world renown. You could cruise along the Nile and enjoy sun and history!

I loved Goa - although is is almost 20 years since my last visit. Thinking of going in February actually.
From memory, the far north and southern ends of Goa are the best. Avoid Baga/Calungute area. The north is more trippy/hippy (the beach parties were legendary!) The south is beautiful, calm. Don’t go AI, so many places to eat gorgeous food.

Also, I can recommend Kerala, absolutely stunning.

OhDear111 · 16/11/2025 22:37

Cannot see what’s so great about Kerala either. It’s ok for a few lazy days but it much more interesting elsewhere.

Titasaducksarse · 16/11/2025 22:41

I've just come back but we did 3 nights in Mumbai then took the train (although you can fly). I loved Mumbai...bonkers but a real heartbeat to the city.

We went to South Goa which was lovely and, from what I can gather far more relaxed than North Goa.

Whilst lovely I'd likely try Kerala next time but I'd really like to do Rajasthan, Golden Triangle etc.

We flew with Virgin and as I booked over 6 months in advance, premium was about the same price you'd pay for TUI economy.
