Activity in France (Vannes) with teens!

We are taking 4 teens to France next year after GCSE’s.
We will arrive in St Malo and want to stay in the Vannes/St Nazaire area for a few days and do water activities and maybe horse riding over a few days, before heading down to the Vendee (already got a place booked).
So my question is…
Any ideas on places we can stay for 3 nights near that first area? Or brilliant activity places around there?
thank you very much!!

My kids loved the St Marcel resistance museum.

I holiday often in the region near St Nazaire. The area is called Presqu'ile de Guerande. Popular with the French for holidays but virtually no British tourists. La Baule is a big beach resort which has water sports and is well-known for horse-riding. There is a national park called the Briere where you can also ride horses and sailing/paddle boarding around Arzal on the Vilaine river.

Vannes is slightly further North. If based around there you could do a boat trip around the islands of the Golfe de Morbihan. There are beaches and watersports at the Quiberon peninsula and the standing stones at Carnac.

Mané Guernehué has an on-site waterpark, equestrian centre, high ropes course, bike hire, mini golf and paddle board hire.

Have a look if there are any Vélo-Rail or Draisines near you. They are a cross between a tiny, open rail-carriage and a four-wheel bike without tyres. They can generally carry 2-6 people, though the number of people pedalling depends upon the design. They run on disused railways. We did this in Britanny a few years ago and it was great fun.

If you are nearer Vannes than St Nazaire, take a day trip to Keroman submarine base at L’Orient and combine it with an afternoon sailing. You have to book a tour of the base. It’s fascinating, and like nothing I’ve seen before. IIRC you book the sailing separately through a different company.

If you are in St Nazaire you can take tours (need to book) round the shipyards where the giant cruise ships are built and the Airbus factory. In season some of the tours are in English. You can also visit the WWII submarine base. All very impressive.

@Tickingcrocodile
that sounds brilliant! I’ll def look into that area. My French is pretty good and one of the teens is MEANT to be doing French gcse. It’s that kind of activity I’m looking for!
xx

@Forgottenmyphone
thank you! Have been having a look at Yelloh but will take a look at this too. We don’t particularly want to stay at a parc, it just looks easier to get everything done in one place!

We went on a trip on a traditional sailing ship on the Golf of Morbihan, which was lovely.

Would also recommend a trip into Nantes, about an hour on the train/ by car. Really interesting and culturally vibrant- the highlight is definitely Les Machines de l'Ile with the massive elephant.

@crackofdoom
thank you! Husband would love the sailing but not the kids. Will def try and check out Nantes.
