Has anyone been to Gotland, Sweden?

If so, where is the best area to stay? We will have a two year old and a very new baby with us.
It’s for my birthday (ending in a 0!), and we’re thinking August. There will be six adults in the party, some of whom really enjoy sea swimming, so I’d like to be quite close to the beach.
It has to be Sweden because one of our family can’t leave whilst their visa application is ongoing.

TIA.

Gotland is massively massively popular in the summer! So you should be aware that it will be super crowded, especially if you go there in early August, then it's the annual Middle Age week - super fun but oh so crowded. That obviously means that it's expensive too.
If you want to have some 'city' life too, I'd suggest staying in eg https://snackcamping.se/, south of Visby. If you want to stay away from people, try Fårö (additional island, north-east). Rent a house/houses. Almost everything is close to the beach, the shore is long, but check if you want direct access, ie a walk or cycle ride away!

It is a lovely area but I prefer to go there in May-June or late August onwards. Swedish schools start in mid-August so after that it's better too!

If you want an area with slightly fewer tourists, I'd suggest somewhere else :-)

Snäck Camping, Visby, Gotland

Camping och tältplatser för att upptäcka Gotland. Vid sandstranden i Visby. 4km från muren. Naturnära, lugnt och med fantastisk frukost varje morgon.

Thank you! We’ve decided to go early September instead. I booked this place, but I’ve got free cancellation.

@scandiinuk - I think those two places are next to each other! 😃

Sounds good with September! You'll explore it in the 'after season'. You should just know that September weather is very variable, so could be swim friendly, but could also be reeeally autumnal and not much fun to spend much time outdoors... There are things to explore on the island indoors too, but lots of attractions are of course outside. Hope you'll enjoy it!
