Has anyone been at this time of year? Was it OK? We are planning a mix of beach, culture and exploring.

I've gone in December many times and it's been lovely.

Would be ok in the south and west , but monsoon season in the north and east.

so depends where you want to go, plenty of good beaches on the south coast. But places like Ella will be in the monsoon area. You could be lucky.

Jan to April is normally considered better

Thanks. Maybe late Nov in the South West then.

Honestly, I’d look at what the island has to offer first, work out what you want to see and then work out where geographically they’d be. Would be a shame to go and then think oh I can’t go to Lion’s rock, can’t go to Buddha’s tooth, can’t go to the tea plantations, can’t go to Ella if that’s where you want to go but you realise it’s pissing it down.

Most people going to Sri Lanka do not stay in one place. You tend to do a circular tour and then maybe finish off with a beach stay.

Though I’m sure some people do just stay in one place but I think that’s missing so much stuff. Remember the roads are awful and it can take a long time to get from one place to another so day excursions from a single base will be limited.
