Last year I went to Tenerife. Im not a huge fan of package holidays but having just done a very busy city break with the kids, would like something with relaxation.
Criteria
-warm enough to swim
-things to do and see as get bored round the pool

  • not too busy
-I am a single parent with 2 girls over 10 so safe for us
  • less than a 5 hr flight
  • hotel/apartment recommendations would also be great
Thank you

Easter is a tricky time of year for warmth and swimming, without going long haul. I think your European options are Canaries or Cyprus. Cyprus was low 20s first week in April this year, but swimming might be questionable unless you have a heated pool. Tenerife was actually colder, in the capital at least, that same week, but you obviously managed to swim. Marrakech was much warmer than either of these options last April, but you sound a bit cautious so not sure if it would be your thing. I last went to Marrakech in 2001, so it's been ages, but had a really lovely trip and the men do stare a bit but it was fine, I would definitely be happy to take my kids. The other closeish hotter options are Cape Verde and red sea coast in Egypt. I suspect Egypt at least is just over 5 hours of flying, and I believe you would be fairly stuck in the hotel in both those places, not been to either myself.

Have a look at La Palma. It is a Canary Islands however it’s really underdeveloped and nothing at all like Tenerife, Lanzarote etc. We really loved it when we went.
