Tell me where to go! Multigenerational, short haul, sunshine!

I am going round the twist. Please someone tell me which hotel/resort to book?!

Looking for a short haul sunny holiday for a family group (6 adults, two children, three rooms). Italy, Portugal, or Spain would be great.

It's my mum's big birthday so budget is £8000 including flights and transfers - a package would be ideal.

We want a nice, classic hotel, which doesn't feel too stuffy for the children but is still quite smart. A pool or beachfront location would be great.

We would like it to be walking distance to a nice area with bars and restaurants.

Please can someone recommend a specific hotel or resort? I've recently been burned with a very disappointing hotel and it's really made me second guess anything I look at!

Not sure of cost but the hosposa uyal is a great hotel in Puerto Pollensa (there are 2 or 3 others owned by the same group also in PP) and it’s a good location for multigenerational groups. My sons learnt to windsurf there and there’s lots of waterspouts available in the bay.

We (me, dh, 16 & 10 year old kids) went to Madeira and absolutely loved it, a few people nearly put us off beforehand but it’s been one of my best holidays.

Thank you so much everyone - these are wonderful ideas for an absolutely amazing trip. My parents are currently dithering and swithering - the joys of planning for other people! - but I'm advocating hard for Mallorca or Costa del Sol based on your recommendations. It's also very useful to have feedback about the pool/sea temps, so we'll definitely bear that in mind. I'll post back when we've booked!

I've sent you a PM with a suggestion for Portugal @Sunnyintervalsandshowers but agree the Balearics would also be great with young children as perfect for paddling.

I second this, it’s a beautiful hotel. If it’s out of your budget, the Hobby Club apartments which are pretty much next door would be a good option too.

Kimpton Los Monteros would fit your criteria (not sure about budget). Fantastic hotel, lots of multi gen families there when we went. Fly to Malaga. Short taxi to Marbella

I’m not sure whether a smaller
pool at a villa tends to be warmer than a larger one at a hotel (I’m thinking of it retaining the sun’s heat), but my family and I have definitely used the pools at various apartment blocks we’ve stayed at during previous May half term holidays (Spain, Italy).

The Costa del Sol tends to be cheaper than Mallorca, both in terms of flights and accommodation.

Thank you so much everyone for the absolutely gorgeous suggestions, and very solid advice! I think many of you were right that although the budget is generous, it doesn't quite stretch to what I had in mind so we were really struggling.

Anyway...long story short...curveball incoming...we got a great deal on flights so have booked a gorgeous Airbnb in the Black Forest. Has a BBQ so lots of self-catering. Fabulous open air public baths. Nearby theme park. Just need to brush up my German!

That's not a big budget for all those people.

It's a great budget for a long weekend. A fortnight, not so much.

Sadly, 99% of posts here that mention a budget give no indication of how long the holiday is meant to be.

@Sunnyintervalsandshowers please tell us how many nights, and what the budget is meant to cover: flights yes/no, meals yes/no, drinks yes/no, excursions yes/no, incidentals yes/no, car hire yes/no, etc etc.

Sounds fantastic @Sunnyintervalsandshowers enjoy!
