Cockroaches in hotel suite

Not sure if this is on the right category but couldn’t find anything so specific. I’m currently writing this post laying in bed on holiday in Gran Canaria suspecting we have cockroaches in the room. I haven’t actually seen one but I’m familiar with the sound. Reception isn’t 24/7 so can’t report till tomorrow. My partner and kids asleep next to me so can’t go rummaging round looking for it/them. Is it safe to sleep or should I wake the family up and try and locate the infestation and get rid tonight? Random one I know bits really worrying me. TIA! :)

I think it depends on what star hotel & if it's on ground floor. Cockroaches are a bit like spiders in hot climates, no one wants them but they're here

Most likely. It's a common issue.Contact the reception or guide in the morning who will arrange for the room to be cleaned.

Common in the Canaries, especially if you are ground floor. I always use a torch for night time bathroom trips just in case...

To be expected in the Canaries ime. Ask reception if they can fog your room whilst you're out.

Cockroaches are icky but basically harmless. They are probably living in the wall space, but the noise you are hearing could also be geckos. As a PP said, in warm climates you're going to get beasties.

Also, if there is one that is minding its own business behind a flimsy bit of skirting and you prise that open and let it out, you've let all hell loose at 4am and reception probably isn't going to fumigate the room at that time.
