4 weeks over the summer

We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take 4 weeks away over the summer holidays, but we are having trouble deciding where to go! Ideally not away for the full period, maybe a couple of weeks doing something a little adventurous and around 10 days in a villa / similar. I don't like camping. Myself, DH, DC 13 and 15. Wondered about Interrailing for a week or so, but even then there is too much choice! Where would you go?

We did just over that length after my baby was born.

Just under a week in Singapore - ultra modern city, great attractions, hawker markets for the food etc.
A week in Langkawi - beach paradise, check out the Datai for a great hotel in an ancient rainforest.
Just under a week in Kuala Lumpur - another very modern city with some great history, incredible food. Lovely mix of cultures.
A week in Krabi, Thailand - beach, scenery, temples etc.
A week in Bangkok - another amazing city, a lot of history and culture. Incredible food.

It was a great balance of relaxing bit, plus adventurous bits. The flights to and from were expensive but the ones in between were cheap and were about an hour each / all direct.

It was very very doable with kids, and the nature was fantastic.

One alternative could be working down/up vietnam. Also a very gorgeous country and good with kids in terms of lots of things to do and a good balance relaxing and interesting.

@Koala2 We started in Boston and made our way up the coast and then had a beach break on Cape Cod. Two-three weeks works well and no internal flights needed! Or go to Halifax in Nova Scotia and explore Eastern Canada. Halifax is a 6 hour flight.

Interailing never interested us. You don’t get to know anywhere.

Other places we’ve been in the summer with dc are Peru, Kenya, South Africa and Alaska. All remembered fondly. Dc at that age would have liked California too but it’s pretty hot in August.
