Birthday trip- where?

Big birthday coming up next month. We had been planning a party but for various reasons that’s not happening, so I’d like to do a trip instead.

Where would you go at the time of year? Needs to be somewhere we could get back from at short notice if necessary for family reasons (so probably Europe or east coast US). We have a good budget and are looking for something special. I love nature, walking, history. Not interested in shopping but I do like a luxury hotel. Will just be me and DH, no kids in tow.

Any suggestions welcome.

Rome is great year round. Things would still be open and plenty of luxury hotels.

You can never go wrong with Paris either.

Multi-city European trip by train, staying at some grand (and not so grand!) hotels along the way. We really enjoyed Vienna, Tallinn, Helsinki. We’ve also enjoyed second-cities (eg Utrecht and Brno vs Amsterdam and Prague).

From late Nov we are also doing Xmas markets - Zurich was fantastic last year - don’t miss Uetliberg!

Luxor, Cairo and snorkelling in the Red Sea

Tuscany has everything you mentioned.

Andalucia - Seville / Cordoba / Cadiz. Weather should still be warmish in the day. Lovely food.

OP, would you prefer warmth or happy to put layers on?
How many days?
Happy to do a multi location trip?

Luxury hotels are everywhere. South of France has absolutely loads! Would be great for food and walking.

You might like cities in Spain for the same reasons. Probably would be my top pick and plenty of luxury hotels. Southern Italy also has great hotels. If you want walking in the countryside, choose a remote hotel! Walking in cities is easy to facilitate!

One other thought. Cape Town. Great weather. Some safe walking available but so much else to do and fantastic places to stay.

Lefay Resort
Dolomites, Italy.

Switzerland perhaps?
