Travel insurance - jet skiing & scuba diving

Evening all

Daughter just turned 18 and her gift from me was that I paid for her to go on her first friends holiday with a friend, they are going to lanzarote next week. Just her and one other friend.

Today they tell me they have pre-booked and paid for jet-skiing and scuba diving. Bit annoyed they have done this but (technically) they're adults and I can't stop them! However... I had already said I'd sort their travel insurance for them both (other friend doesn't have any close family in the country to help her with this). I'm now looking into this and it seems they won't be covered by standard travel insurance and I'll need to go to a specialist company!? Does anyone have any experience of this, or any advice please? How expensive is it likely to be?

I wish they'd bloody spoken to me before they booked it!!!!

I think it would be just 'water sports' added which shouldnt be much more really for 2 healthy 18 year olds. But check online with added water sports activities

I don't know about jet skiing but I have dived in many countries including Lanzarote.

You need to read the hazardous activities details, which tend to be grouped according to increasing risk, Id expect jet skiing to be in a higher category that costs extra.

The fact you're asking about diving suggests that she doesn't already dive, so will have booked a beginner course, which will mean she doesn't go very deep (max about 20 metres), which could be covered by a standard policy, especially if you buy from a company that specialises in adventure holidays.

We've used Columbus when diving in the past, which has been good for coverage for diving deeper than beginner level at least, but I still think it will be the jet skiing that is more of an issue, but you need to talk to her about this and get her involved in the tedious reading of policy small print, especially if this is the start of her doing these sorts of things on holiday.
