Is Gibraltar worth visiting?

Just that, really. We are staying east of Malaga. It’s about a 2.5hr drive each way and I’d like to know if we should attempt it. Thanks

it has an airport I assume, I wouldnt want to spend ages in queues at the borders as someone has said above.

It does indeed have an airport. But Gibraltar is about to join the Schengen area, so when that happens you will have to go through passport control, very likely staffed by Spanish officers, and give your fingerprints at an EES kiosk. The land border with Spain will melt away at that point.

Gibraltar is a curiosity, if you like that sort of thing. It's not some kind of little Devonshire village with extra sunshine — the atmosphere is basically European. When I see Gibraltar politicians on TV they seem to have slight Spanish accents and be called things like George Hernandez or some other "beautiful British name" (© Al Murray). There is a huge daily influx of workers from Spain - watching Spanish shoppers asking a question of the staff in Marks and Spencer and discovering that they were also (all) Spanish is quite funny.

I love hearing them speak llanito (Gibraltarian mix of Andaluz and English) it's kind of like when my bilingual kids speak, like a total mash up of both languages in one sentence.

An afternoon is enough

My parents have spent a lot of time in Gibraltar. Lovely if you like a quiet relaxing holiday.

I've never seen so many mopeds/scooters/motorbikes in one little place in my life.

We visited from Estepona, wasn’t particularly impressed although I don’t think we planned our day there very well. I wouldn’t chose to go there from the east of Malaga, it’s too far for something a bit meh. I would recommend Granada or Cordoba instead (assuming you have already visited Malaga itself).
