We’ve been to Woburn and it’s our nearest, but wondering if we should go somewhere we haven’t been before, most notably perhaps the Lake District as it’s on the bucket list. Is there much difference between them all?

Whinfell is pretty hilly - fine for adults and older kids, but DC1 was on a small bike with no gears at the time and it was tough

I’ve only been to Sherwood and Whinfell. Sherwood ticked all the boxes for us, we’ve had several stays there with different age groups.

I like Elveden best because it’s flat and has lots of essentially tame deer and squirrels that will eat out of your hand.

I like the European ones better. My favourite is Allgau just outside Munich. The European ones also don’t do the insane holiday price hikes you get in the UK so a week at half term there cost the same as a weekend at half term in Woburn, even adding in the cost of eurotunnel, petrol and two nights accommodation on the way.

Like PP came on here to say Allgäu. Another level!

We weren’t keen on the Lake District one as my kids are really into swimming and the kids’ swimming area was postage stamp sized, the main swimming pool was small too. Sherwood has much more for kids.

Same as PP I love Elverdon because it’s flat and the tame wildlife that come up to your door to feed. I’m going to Woburn for the first time tonight so will let you know how that is!

Elveden x

Thanks all, sticking to UK because this is supposed to be a low maintenance holiday to supplement our main holiday so trying to keep it stress free with minimal travel! Although Whinfell is a bit of a trek!

Have to admit Elvedon wasn’t really on my radar so I will take another look at that, love the idea of wildlife and it’s not that far from us. Is the accommodation and pool still nice and modern? I gather Woburn is the newest one?

we have done elveden and Longleat- Elvden was great for the wet Feb trip we did as it’s all really close together and easy to walk. However unless we were going at that time of year we much preferred Longleat- felt much less crowded and more peaceful.

Forgottenmyphone · 17/10/2025 09:12

At Elveden, as with some of the other CPs, it’s a bit hit and miss with the accommodation. Some of the older Executive lodges get reviews saying they could do with a refresh. I stayed in a newer one last year and it was fantastic. The spa has recently been refurbished and is really worth going to now.

It’ll be March and term time (for most kids, our school has unusual holidays). Gutted how much the lodges with hot tubs cost! Shame they don’t do 2 bedroom ones.
