What are the best islands to visit in Greece for first-time travelers?

I’m planning my first-ever trip to Greece and can’t decide which islands to visit! There are so many beautiful options any suggestions from those who’ve been there?

What kind of holiday would you like? Do you like to party or do you prefer peace and quiet?

Island/Islands (one or hopping between)?
Budget?
Time of year?
Single/couple/family?
Dry or lush?

I’ve visited about 12 of the islands and I recommend Zante. I went for the first time this year and found it good value, nice beaches and food and excursions and activities are cheap.

Do you just want a beach, or a pool or history, walking, exploring, kids clubs …? How hot is too hot?

Crete's got everything- and more of it.
