Oslo and Copenhagen as a solo traveller?

DontReinMeIn · 05/10/2025 18:13

I have a week of leave to use up and have pretty much settled on a week in Oslo and Copenhagen. I want to get the ferry between the two, which goes overnight. At the moment it’s looking like I’ll go solo (26 year old woman) but my brother may end up coming if he wants to.

Any tips of where to go and stay?

The D'Angleterre is one of my favourite hotels in the entire world.

It’s out of my budget but looks stunning!

I love Oslo! I recommend taking the 2 hour train journey to Lillehammer, the train ride by itself is absolutely stunning and runs alongside the longest lake in Norway.
lillehammer is the home of the Winter Olympics and is picture book pretty with gorgeous hills to walk up, if you’re going in winter you can do tobogganing and just a little way out of town you can go husky sledding which is an absolutely incredible experience.
the Munch museum and sculpture park in Oslo are both brilliant, and there’s a great place called Salt for saunas and cold plunge tubs.

Great places. Just be aware that Oslo is pricey

We did Copenhagen and Oslo this summer. We always do one of the free walking tours on our first day there where you contribute what you think the tour is worth (we used Guruwalk) . They are always good for orientating your self and give tips for things to visit /restaurants etc . We stayed at Next House Copenhagen which was a really sociable hostel with events for single travellers which may suit .
We also did Norway in a nutshell tour of the fjords but this may be a bit tight if you only have a week. We enjoyed the Fram museum in Oslo and the town hall is very impressive
We stayed at the Anker Hotel in Oslo which was nice. The whole area is very safe so don't worry about being a solo traveller

I've only been to Copenhagen. Loved it and it felt very safe. Stayed in Nyhavn - Hotel Bethel. There are some cheaper hotels - and more expensive ones - in the area.

We walked everywhere, just used the metro for going to and from the airport as it was very central. I loved the Christianshavn area too which was nearby but not many hotels there.

free walking tours are such a smart way to get oriented in Copenhagen and Oslo, and Guruwalk is a solid choice. Staying at Next House Copenhagen sounds perfect for solo travelers, and it’s always useful to know both what to see and the things not to do in Copenhagen. Your Oslo picks like the Fram Museum and Oslo City Hall sound spot on too.

If you are in Oslo go up the Olympic ski jump. The view from the top is stunning
