Hotel recommendations in Rome

Hello,

I’m planning a 5 night trip to Rome next September by myself (female). I think I’ll need to stay close to the Termini station but, from what I’m reading, it’s a dodgy area. Is it? My flight (not booked yet) gets in at 18.30 so I think it will be dark by the time I get to Termini station (I plan to get the train from the airport).

Can anyone recommend a hotel that isn’t too expensive and not in a dodgy area?

Thanks 🙏

Monti and trastevere are both really recommended areas. Monti being more central, quieter and only a 5/6 min walk from Terminj Station. I’ve booked Salotto Monti

Taxis are one fare from the airport to inside the walls. Rather than having a worse location first 5 days U’d suck it up.

The Hotel Ponte Sisto is a great location (I’ve stayed in apartments all over). If it’s too much anything nearby. Don’t stay near a main road and it’s much easier to be central as it’s all very walkable.

We recently stayed in Hotel Milani. It's a two minute walk from the train station and my daughter and I felt very safe. We got a train from the airport direct to the train station. Then used buses, the underground and trams to get around. It was all very easy. We went Trastevere for dinner each night and loved it there.

I've stayed in Starhotels Metropole - a nice hotel that felt safe. It's a few minutes walk from Termini Station.
There's a lovely restaurant across the road called Alessio

I've stayed in this hotel, and agree it was nice, with a fairly corporate feel - location is close to the Termini Station, but fairly easy to walk in to the centre.

The Hotel Ponte Sisto is a great location

I've also stayed here, lovely hotel and the location is fantastic, easy walk to the centre, to Trastevere in the evening, and a walk along the river to the Vatican.
If you are flying in to Fiumicino, it was very simple to get the train to Trastevere, then change on to a tram which stopped near the hotel.

We stayed in the Hotel Lirico which is close to the station but an easy walk to all the sights.
We were very impressed for the price and would happily stay there again
