Picnic Spot Near Marwell Zoo?

Am off to Marwell Zoo next Saturday and am planning a picnic tea. I was thinking that somewhere near the zoo rather than the zoo itself might be best in the hope that it might be a nice evening and we could linger and kick a ball around in an attempt to tire everyone out!

So, if anyone knows the area and can recommend anywhere that'd be great - we'll ultimately be driving back to London but am happy to detour in any direction!

I like the idea of a nice pub - maybe I'll scrap the picnic idea! If we went Winchester way do any of the parks have a children's playground? Can you tell I'm still on the theme of exhausting them?!

The lord mayors garden has a little park in it, and is by the river, a lovely spot to have picnic etc. The pub on the corner towards Marwell - the Queen's head does nice food, and has a climbing frame in the garden.

Watermeadows in Twyford v nice for picnic

The Bridge in Shawford is a nice pub on the Itchen if you fancy that idea.
