Hi Greece has been on my holiday list for years and finally hope to go this June (late June) for a week.
We will be DH and two sons 22 and their girlfriends. We all get along well ! Will hope to find a villa with pool and near the sea.
Which island ?
Walkable to restaurants etc but not too full as in no “strip” as such just nice places to walk to to eat and drink and mooch around.
Paxos came up as an option ?
Will fly from London
Any advice ?
Thanks !

Yes paxos really fantastic.

FlorencenotRatchet · 01/10/2025 08:50

Paxos is great. Bear in mind you have to take a boat from Corfu and there are only a couple of sailings a day. Once in Paxos there are only 4/5 taxis that serve the island so you need to have everything booked in advance.
The beaches are small and stoney but you can get a boat to Antipaxos which has Caribbean type beaches.

Thanks everyone
happy to look outside of paxos are most beaches stoney in Greece ? Any easy options to fly to ?

Thassos is lovely and Golden beack is glorious, long and sandy. You fly to the mainland and get a ferry which is a lovely experience too. Kefalonia and Rhodes also have sandy beaches and are very easy to fly to.

Mastihari on Kos has a lovely sandy beach. It's a nice Greek village with some nice restaurants, a few bars and some shops.

The Ionian Islands are direct flights away and so wonderfully green, especially at the start of summer! Mixture of gorgeous sandy beaches and pebble beaches.

Just stay away from the party towns on Corfu and Zakynthos. Kefalonia is stunning and quiet.

We are just back from Rethymno in Crete - Stunning old town, harbour and newer front hotels and restaurants

Skiathos would be a good match for you based on what you’ve said.

Stay in Skiathos Town for the harbour with the traditional tavernas and take the water taxi to the sandy beaches. The bus service is good and frequent, with only one route around the Island.

You can also easily do a day trip to Skopleos by boat.

We are just back from Kassiopi in Corfu. We went with our adult DDs and their partners and we had a lovely villa with a pool. It was perfect for us. The town was a 15 minute amble away and wasn't too busy. It had a good assortment of bars, restaurants and shops. We had a fabulous time.

I recommend Crete. It was our first time to Greece last year and that’s where we went - we had a wonderful time!

FinallyHere · 02/10/2025 15:38

Another vote for Crete, Chania of in the hills above.

Whereabouts please? I have only been once and think we picked the wrong area and hotel. I’m looking for quiet and unspoilt, good food, things to visit and sandy beaches .

Itsbeenalongoldday · 02/10/2025 16:02

Crete sounds great - more details on loaction though as very easy to get it wrong!
Skiathos sounds good too
Is late June a good time or unreliable weather wise?

Late June is perfect for Skiathos.

I think this is a really good guide to giving you a feel for the Island and whether it is right for you
