Solo holiday to Tblisi, Georgia

I'm thinking of going there on a solo holiday, (I've never gone on holiday alone before, and haven't been in years by now). I'd likely be going in the Autumn.

I assume the political situation continues to be unstable at the moment there?

How easy is it to get around with English & basic Russian (I can read and speak a bit of it).

I went last December. (alone) Very easy to get round with English. Political situation wasn't an issue - if anything it was good as the police closed down the main road to traffic to allow for nightly demos outside parliament, the demos were 'family friendly', interesting to talk to the demonstrators, and it made the centre of town a pedestrian zone in the evening. If you can, go see an opera (cheap and high quality)
