Santorini hell

We’ve just arrived in Santorini at the end of a short stint of island hopping. Have to stay three nights to get our flight home. And it’s hell! Honestly never been anywhere worse! So crowded, and we’re stuck here. Staying in Oia and out of desperation have rented a car.

any advice or top tips welcome.
Tje other islands have been great, and so has Athens. But Santorini? Urgh

You should have gone in 1978 when I did! I see shots of it now and it looks very busy.

The consequences of really loving Santorini in the early 80s is that I am getting quite old now! Full of the freedom of youth back then and seeing a very different culture, drinking ouzo and dancing in the tavernas, and the feta cheese and olives, and the gorgeous waiters. And...

I am so glad I saw it then. Same applies to most places of interest these days. Just not enjoyable anymore, but then again when I do travel I am one of the mass tourists anyway, and I can't have anywhere to myself either!

I'm a sucker for going to cities and areas of interest in November and February. I know the days are shorter, the weather is unpredictable and can be cold, but the crowds really thin out a lot at those times. They are still there but nothing like April - October. I don't like sun hols so that helps my choices! Was in Rome last week which was not the right time I would choose, but was for a special reason. Heaving and very (too) hot. Never again at that time!

We were in Folegrandos before Santorini. Beautiful and low key. Would recommend

I really enjoyed it, I loved the beaches and did a few boat trips plus a lovely lunch and mooch around Oia.
