We are heading off to Cairo and Luxor for a week. We will see the main sites but I’d love suggestions of what you enjoyed if you went there. Tips of places to eat, shops, places to see, tips for travelling/ walking around etc. Going in October when weather will be high 20s/ low 30s. What shoes worked for you for all the walking around? Did you go on a balloon ride and would you recommend it? Did you pay mainly in Egyptian Pounds or US dollars? Thanks for any gems you can send my way.

Did Luxor last year with Falcon Adventures - find them on FB or Tripadvisor. Very highly recommended and paid them before we went so no faffing last minute. We had a private full day tour which was worth the extra - driver and guide with just DH and I all day. Lots of people also recommended the 2 day trip which includes overnight hotel in Luxor and ballon ride as the sun comes up - but I'm not good with heights!

Fave part for me was Karnak, but TBH it was all pretty amazing.

Oh and we went Easter which was similar temps - long sleeve and long cotton trousers, hat, trainers. Don't forget the mozzie spray, we did and I got bitten a few times in the tombs.

The new museum in Cairo is a must and the one in Luxor is good too. We are on our Nile River boat. You get pestered a lot. Look at Lonely planet for recommendations. Valley of the Kings, Valley of Queens (Hatshepsut) and Karnak are the big attractions. Wear trainers! Id use well established places to eat.

It’s about 7 years ago now but we loved Cairo, it was fun to walk round it. This park was a great place to hang out with places to eat too https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2005/3/25/cairo-park-restores-ancient-glory. Uber is cheap easy and safe (though the taxis are fun).

Cairo park restores ancient glory

A 30-hectare park built from scratch on what used to be a 500-year-old garbage dump topping one of Cairo’s poorest neighbourhoods, is ready for inauguration.
