Quick magical Christmas holiday in December (with snow?)

I've spent so long looking for somewhere we can visit this December that has that magical European Christmas feel and somewhere we can see snow, so probably near the mountains, though I don't want somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Ideally somewhere with easy connections too as we're only going for a few days.

Can anyone help with suggestions? At the moment I'm looking at innsbruck or somewhere in Sweden or Norway (though no idea where)

Thank you

With a similar brief we did Innsbruck and had a brilliant time. No snow on the ground in the city but easy ride up to top of the mountain where there was snow (and you can see the mountains from the city). Very easy public transport and good Christmas markets in Innsbruck. We did snow and mountains by day and markets by night.
we were very lucky with the weather though. Quite a high risk of flight cancellation due to bad weather as the airport is between mountains.

Innsbruck is beautiful, but flights from the UK are limited (mainly weekends only) and as @Canoo says, flights can often be cancelled due to the weather and the special requirements for landing at Innsbruck. If you do fly there, make sure you have a window seat and don't panic if it looks like the wingtips are going to touch the mountains on both sides of the plane!

For Austria you could also look at flying to Salzburg - there are daily flights in December from the UK. Salzburg itself is great for a short trip, although for snow you might need to get out of the city and stay in a mountain resort such as Zell am See, which is a busy town with a lake, mountains, guaranteed snow and plenty to do even for non-skiers. Because it is a ski resort, everything will be open throughout Christmas whereas in the cities almost everything - shops, restaurants, museums etc - closes for 2 days over Christmas. Train or bus from Salzburg to Zell am See takes just under 2 hours (and is free for tourists if your hotel provides the Salzburgerland Mobility Card).
