2 adults plus teen DD. Looking to go for new year (DH’s birthday on 3rd Jan).

Have found a hotel with rooms that look over the river for the NYE fireworks, but wondering if that’s going to be inconvenient for other things we may want to do. Might look to do 2 hotels if so.

Assume lots of things will be closed on 1st Jan so was wondering about hiring a car and driving the coast or to see some views.

If you can book a food tour. It’s a walking tour round restaurants in different areas of the city, sampling typical Portuguese food.

i’ll have a look (but I struggle with dietary requirements in this country and they’re worse in the med, and DD is ND and has issues with food).

May end up living on Pastel de Nata!

Did anyone have any thoughts about being in a hotel in this location (Parque de Nacos?).

It's quite a way from the 'centre' - it's more in the business district, although the Metro system is good so you're never very far from anywhere. A fun way to see the city is to take a Segway tour, or if you prefer to sit down you can hire a mini Jeep.

We stayed here in August with our teen DD in a one bed apt. It was wonderful! Beautifully furnished, pristine clean and walkable to the centre.

Lovely team and with a reception. We used the laundry and the rooftop terrace. We had a car as we were moving up north after five days and got free parking by joining their club.

Yes, I know Lisbon quite well! It’s a city full of history, culture, and stunning views. Lisbon is built on seven hills, so be ready for lots of Walking and climbing, but the reward is worth it—every corner offers a beautiful view of the Tagus River or charming tiled streets.

Thank you. I think the metro system is restricted on 1st Jan which could be an issue.

Thanks, but I’m not looking for accommodation suggestions. I already have one which would have a view of the NYE fireworks without needing to jostle with crowds.

Looking for a relaxing break with minimal hassle. We usually do self catering but would prefer a hotel for this trip. I’m looking at £2k for hotel room and flights, £200 to add breakfast (not sure about that) for 5 nights which is fine but don’t want to pay that sort of money to not then be able to easily move around.

That hotel location would annoy me as it’s so far from everything.

Rats. Back to the drawing board. :-/

It's not "so far away from everything". It's close to the airport, Oriente station, the cable car and Oceanarium, lots of good restaurants and the Metro. It's quieter and less touristy than the old town which is not always a bad thing. Lisbon is not a big city.

I stayed in that area for work. The train is easy and Uber is really cheap in Lisbon. Very close to airport. Nice big shopping centre and the aquarium.

It will be New Year though, so most of those places will be closed/reduced.
