Holiday transfer

When travelling with toddlers what do people do about the transfer from airport to hotel? We're going to Majorca on Sunday with our 17 month old twins and Jet2 just offer a coach transfer where the twins need to sit on our knees. Is that safe? Or should we book a taxi with car seats? I'm not planning to bring my own car seats.

Thanks!

It's exactly the same as travelling on public transport in the UK, you wouldn't take car seats then would you.

If you want to take a taxi with car seats just remember to tell the reps at the airport just so they are not waiting for you on the transfer coach.

Thank you! I guess I felt it was a bit safer on public transport here as they're in their pram but on the knee in a coach just seems a bit less secure?

Book private taxi that provides car seats. It can be quite pricey dependant on how far you are going. I think our most expensive was Alcudia as it was a good 40mins or so in the car. It was about €75 euros each way and that was a few years ago now. The car seats we have been provided with though are never great. Always forward facing but better than nothing.

Thank you. I'd considered this but my husband seems to think there's no need...

Which resort are you going to? Some are very close to the airport and will only cost a few euros. Some are almost an hour away and will be pricey.

There are unlikely to be seatbelts on the coach, but there will probably be some spare seats.

Last few times we’ve used holiday coaches there have been seatbelts. Italy, Egypt and Spain

Seatbelts are compulsory by law, but these are 17 month old kids, so not ideal.

I guess on your knee is marginally safer than in a pram or pushchair - which could roll/ fly off. Only an actual car seat properly fixed is going to be properly safe - I don’t think in their own seats with a seatbelt will be any safer than in your knee really.

When I have been on package holidays with my kids I have paid extra for a taxi but that’s more because DS and I are very travel sick. When he was young enough to need one, they did give him a car seat.

CheeseWisely · 12/09/2025 14:31

When we travelled to Lanzarote with DS last year we booked a private taxi transfer with a car seat. We had him on our knee on coach style public buses but just between resorts, not on the highway from the airport.

A lot of people say don’t trust taxi car seats and to take your own, but on balance I trust a taxi car seat for a couple of journeys more than I trust a baggage handler not to throw/drop my own car seat on the floor and render it dangerous for ever!

We did this with toddler twins. It was fine x

When we've been away with Jet2 we use their private transfer option. It doesn't usually cost much (probably more than a taxi though), I believe you can request cat seats. You can WhatsApp with them and ask, they are pretty good at responding quickly and I've found the advisors helpful.
