Travel insurer which is not trying to rip you off

Is there such an insurance company? I’ve had problems with every company, they’re always trying to get out of paying. For example, our plumbing and house insurer won’t pay for a leaking toilet, wtf?! The travel insurance ( stay sure, which is regarded one of the best,) won’t pay for delayed luggage for all family members when it clearly states in the policy that they should. All of us are on the policy.
I’m so tired of trying to fight for what we have the right to! Does anyone know of any insurer who are decent and not a rip off?!
My family lives in another country ( not the ones on the policy) and they don’t have any problems with claims. Same for some of my colleagues, they shake their heads at how fraudulent British insurance companies seem to be.

I wouldn’t expect house insurance to pay for a leaking toilet - they don’t cover all ongoing maintenance and repairs.

Our luggage was delayed and we had no problem getting the insurance to reimburse the clothes we had to buy. But it was 48 hours late, and we were quite restrained in what we bought - just the essentials, and from H&M and similar priced places. If they think you are taking the mickey maxing out on new stuff they will query the claim. How much did you spend and how long did you wait for your luggage?

I work for a travel insurance company and I would say we pay around 90% of all claims. What reason have staysure given for declining the claim

Also to add for delayed luggage most policies will expect you to get compensation from the airline first. Won’t cover you for your return journey home. And will only cover essentials and the luggage usually has to be delayed for a certain number of hours

When our washing machine leaked and caused considerable damage to our kitchen floor I was impressed with how quickly our insurance company paid out. We were with Aviva.

I have had horrible service from travel insurance companies. Genuine claims in distressing circumstances handled very badly and when referred to their complaint team it was no better. I spent ages dealing with them at a time they should be 'supporting' me. There is no understanding from any insurance company I have been with that when you need to make a claim you are probably having a shit time. It is not unreasonable to expect good service because I have PAID them to do so and it is their JOB. So sorry op no recommendations just feather spitting.

My travel insurance is through my bank account with Barclays and so far they have paid out, no questions asked. We had trouble years ago with a different company and ended up having to use a solicitor but we were talking a serious amount of money. We have insurance with British Gas and that covers plumbing work, not repairs to damage to floors.

Oh I'm pleased to read this as I was just this morning thinking of upgrading for the travel insurance. I am currently traveling a lot more than I used to and could do with a blanket policy rather than just for each trip.

So our luggage was missing for 4 days and the policy states we should get £150pp after 48h for the inconvenience plus reimbursed essentials. We got 200 and they keep saying it is what we are entitled to.
I’m astonished a plumbing insurance won’t cover plumbing jobs as well as damaged caused by leaks.

I think I’ve found a copy of your policy wording and it does state £50 for the first 24 hours and up to £150 after 48 hours and that is per person. So you should have received £200 per person. I would make a complaint and get them re review your claim.

Sounds like you haven’t read the policy terms carefully before incepting the policies. I recently had to take out buildings insurance for a house I’m about to buy - the policy details clearly stated that unless I paid an extra amount, normal day to day repairs like leaking pipes would not be covered (burst pipes would). I paid the extra.

There was another thread recently where the OP was surprised that her travel insurance policy wouldn’t pay out for trip cancellation due to family illness because she had chosen to incept the policy on the day of departure but the family member’s illness started before that (but after she’d bought the policy). If I pay for car insurance to start on 30 September, I wouldn’t expect the policy to cover an accident which occurred before 30 September.

So sounds like it could be £150 per person for luggage so if 4 people = £600, minus a £100 excess pp = £200 due ?

Just because you don't understand insurance doesn't mean they're ripping you off. Many insurers make the sum total of fuck all from the basic insurances because competition is so high - it's the crappy add ons they make money on.

No insurer would pay for a leaking toilet. That's wear and tear on your property. They will pay if the toilet suddenly breaks and damages stuff. Also - wtf is plumbing insurance? Do you mean home emergency including plumbing?

PP mentioned your excess - did you factor that in?

If you think the payment is wrong. Complain - explain why it's wrong. Then go to the FOS if the insurer still disagrees. You have methods of challenge.
