Hello, I’m off there Monday and have read that you can’t get money out in the normal way because of it being a “closed currency”.

has anyone been recently who can advise?

You can get cash at atms. I have a starling card and it was fine. No you can't get it at travel agents pre visit. Tips- the airport looks gorgeous, its a fecking nightmare, especially going out. You can't use boarding passes on yr phone so you need to et them printed-my Riyadh did ours. Queue to get in airport scanning bags, queue to get check in, enormous queue for security(like the whole hall). But duty free area is gorgeous, nice food. Have fun.

We bought cutrency in our hotel. Don't take any home you can't use it.

Lots of atms. Some charge more than others- those in a bank I think are best rate. Get coins in change for tips. Remember to let your bank know you’re going.

I went in January, it’s an amazing place. I took £100 pounds worth of currency with me that I got at an exchange place before I went. There’s plenty of places to change money there though it’s not an issue.
i was also able to change the notes back to sterling when I got home, it was only around £30 though

I went recently and used euros everywhere. I had a great time but it was hot and intense.

Not all the atms have the technology for UK cards.
Don't panic if any don't work - keep trying ones closer in to the medina.
It's very easy to change up sterling.

Also worth checking if your phone works. You might need to buy a pack in advance. It’s not like Spain etc where your inclusive minutes can be used.

Lots of places to change money- hotel Ali in the main square (where the snake charmers and monkeys are ) has the best rates.
