Big 40th birthday in march. Will be 1st time away on our own without kids and they are 13 and 16 (one has a disability).
We are hoping to go for max of 4 nights. Hoping for decentish weather (tho not beach). We dont like shopping. Only city we have ever done is London 🙈.Current suggestions are
New york
Vegas
Budapest
Venice
Croatia.

Has anyone any recommendations. Will be over easter holidays as only time we can get childcare

thanks

I've done Venice, Naples and Bruges at Easter (not in the same year 😄) and they've all been lovely weather wise and the packages no more expensive. We usually book with Easyjet holidays (and they've got a sale on at the moment).

Vegas is too far for 4 nights and New York still had snow on the ground when I went in April one year. It was bitterly cold and I had to buy extra layers! Seville has an amazing Easter celebration https://www.seville-traveller.com/semana-santa-seville/

Budapest is amazing and you might get nice weather. My favourite ever city though is Seville, where it should be nice in March. 4 nights is perfect.

I’ll second both of these…been to both in March/April times…good weather, not too busy, loads to do!

I would rule out Vegas, it's too far for a short break.
New York is probably just about ok in that length of time if you can get flights to maximise your time there and you're not too bad with jet lag.
Budapest is a stunning city, would definitely recommend.
Croatia is a country not a city!!
I would add Barcelona to your list - it's further south so more chance of warmer weather and there is loads to see.

N.Y. probably quite cold.
L.V. is basically gambling & shopping - & weddings !
B&V both lovely & interesting whatever the weather.
We went to Dubrovnik last March. Weather was changeable, but an interesting place & we just braved the occasional showers.
We went to Split last summer, it was heaving, so probably March is a good time to go. 4 nights is about right .
I'd be looking at southern Spain or Italy if weather is important.
Seville, Granada, Cordoba are all interesting - we did all 3 on the same trip as we had a car.

We went to Portugal in March hoping for nice weather. We were unlucky - the weather was worse than it would be usually. But it made me realise that places like that are geared up for warm weather and are not so interesting in the rain and wind .
( It wasn’t a big city btw)
So I would stick to Northern Europe . I love Copenhagen personally. But I would check if the Tivoli gardens are open first.

MizzeryGuts · 05/09/2025 12:47

I’d go to Rhodes I think, simply because rest of the year it’s too hot for me!

Not the US - too much faff and jet lag and carbon wasted for such a short trip.

On your list Venice would tempt me the most, but it will not be cheap at Easter!

tedlassoforprimeminister · 05/09/2025 12:48

I went to Seville and Madrid in march. It rained every day. Still lovely cities though.

MinnieMountain · 05/09/2025 13:22

What do you like doing? I went to Rome for my 40th because I love ancient history. The weather will be nice at Easter.

Radiatorvalves · 05/09/2025 13:25

Rome. I was there in March this year and it was great.

Malaga

Thank you everyone. We both like walking (hiking-dh more than me), sightseeing, foodies, musicals. We are pretty easy going. All our holidays before has been aimed at kids. Love London but want something different. At the minute we are debating between Venice and Budapest. Dates confirmed as 2nd week April (school holiday dates so suits grandparents)
