Please help me find a hotel in Sardinia

Hi my daughter is finishing her GCSEs next summer so this will be the first time in many years that we can go away outside school holidays. I have promised her a week away in Sardinia at a great hotel where she can chill in the sun, swim, and eat amazing Sardinian food.

I’ve been looking at hotels but most of the five stars seem to be located in quite remote areas and are described as “romantic” whereas I think we’d be better somewhere a little more lively. I don’t want to hire a car so it would be good to be able to get around a little without one.
Can anyone recommend a hotel that might fit the bill?

We’re not entirely wedded to Sardinia so if there are recommendations for the Italian mainland we’d appreciate it. We’ve been to some of the Italian cities and loved Ostuni but not really looking for Lakes/Florence/Rome.

I feel like this might be our last proper mother/daughter trip so want to make it really special.

Hotel Pitrizza isn’t too remote - we were able to walk to restaurants and the Porto Cervo marina.

Where in Sardinia?

Alghero is the best place in my opinion, there are lots of hotels along the sea front area and you can walk into town, you're then just across the road from the beaches.

How about Villa Las Tronos in Alghero? It’s in an amazing position but also easy to walk into Alghero.

We’re going to Alghero next May, having been before. No need for a car.

Agree on Alghero. The airport is there and the town itself is on the beach so you dont need a car. We've always done Airbnb though, not sure if there are any luxe hotels in the town itself.

We always airbnb, got a lovely one last year near the Cathedral.

Would agree with the others, find a place and then work out accommodations from there. Alghero is a good start. Another thing to look for is the beach -many sections of Italian beaches are privately owned so to sit there you have to rent sunbed and a shade (at 30+ euros a day)

A beach front hotel on the other hand may have its own private beach

Thank you so much. I will look at Alghero. I don’t know much about Sardinia and google hasn’t been much help so it’s great to get a steer from people who are knowledgeable.

We stayed at Cala di Falco in Cannigione without a car. Beach is across the road and the small town with shops and restaurants is about 10 mins walk. The hotel runs boat trips. They offer options from S/C to full board.

IIRC the city Lido beach is open to all, as are the more beautiful Maria Pia and Bombarde beaches. I think only small sections are private.

Thanks all. Villa las tronos did look amazing but wasn’t quite the vibe I was after. I ended up booking in Sicily but the recommendations helped me think about what I wanted.

Hi @MissyB1 I have booked the Grand Palladium Sicilia Resort and Spa through Tui. There were a lot of flight options but it looks much closer to Palermo even though the default no extra charge flight was to Catania so look out for that.
