Travelling with young adult DC.
We’ve got flights and accommodation booked already.

Things you would recommend to do and see? Restaurants and bars?

Hmm. Ds flew back from there when interrailing. I don't think he felt there was much to do there. He went to the airport early!

Sorry. Hopefully you will find things to do or day trips to other places.

That doesn’t sound too promising 😂

It's pretty but when we went in 2022 loads of the historic buildings were closed for repairs after the 2020 earthquake. That doesn't really seem to have changed for some of the buildings at least in the 3 years since based on Google maps. So Saint Marks in the upper town which has the shields on the roof, that is seemingly still closed and the cathedral is still closed. We did a tour of the outside of the churches, walked through the Gric tunnel, timed our visit to the Lotrscak tower for the canon firing and we were kind of done. We then ended up in the museum of illusion to fill the afternoon. There are some day trips you could do from Zagreb, like Ljubljana or Plitvice Lakes (better with a car).

Just remembered about the museum of broken relationships, we didn't visit as it didn't appear to be age appropriate for our kids, but it is popular with tourists.

I have close friends in Zagreb and have visited many times, though not since COVID. It is a lively city that I quite like.

The city centre is lovely (high and low town). Gradec is great to walk through. The Cathedral is worth a visit, as is the Opera.

The Museums (Archaeology, Mimara/Art) are worth a visit. The Museum of Broken Relationships is a quirky one, that I particularly like.

Outside the city centre there isn't all that much, especially not south. But in the northern part of the city there are a few other things worth visiting:

Medvedgrad (a castle) and the surrounding hills are well worth a visit if you like to hike. Just north of the city, easily reachable by tram/bus, and a popular place for locals too.

Park Maksimir is lovely.

Mirogoj cemetery has beautiful family graves/mausoleums, if you like that sort of thing.
