Just returned from a trip to New York with my 2 DD's and wanted to thank all the mumsnetters who answered my post last week with advice. A big thank you to you all! We had a ball!! Followed lots of your advice and packed so much into the week. If anyone else wants any tips I have loads of tips and recommendations. Thank you to the lady who recommended Dylan's Candy store, my girls loved it and we never would have found it otherwise. Can't wait to go again and to anyone who is thinking about going with children do it they will love it!!

This is good to know as we're thinking about going for a week in December when our son is born. Where did you stay?

mamablue · 01/06/2008 17:55

Hi. We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue. It was a bit pricey but we got a good deal booking direct with the hotel on line 6 months in advance. I have to say although I would totally recommend NY as a great place to go with children I would not take an under five year old. The major tourist sights would be impossible to negotiate with a baby in a pram or pushchair. Especially in December as 5th Avenue would be heaving. I personally would not want to take a baby.

Hi I am going in the summer. where is the candy store?

mamablue · 01/06/2008 18:15

Dylan's Candy Store is on 60th and 3rd Avenue. It is fab my DD's loved it. It has 3 floors and an ice cream parlour!! The most sweets you will ever see in one place!!

Wouldn't be in a pram as we have a sling.

JamInMyWellies · 02/06/2008 13:13

I went with my DS last Aug when he was 3mth totally fine with a buggy as long as you are happy to bump up stairs on subway no problem.

finallypregnant, hope I did not sound too dismissive, did not mean too. If you go I am sure you will have a great time. There are alot of steps and stairs but sure a sling would be fine. Plenty of lovely restaurants who seemed to cater for children of all ages. Shops had divine baby clothes in too! Hope you have a great time.

Empire state building was great, well worth it and we went first thing so queues moved v quickly. Staten Island ferry good too, and free. My older 2 (13 and 16) went with their uncle on 'The Beast' which is a crazy speedboat ride around harbour with dudes pointing water guns at you and playing loud music. They had a ball.
