We have a 7 year old and have been abroad for first time this year.

Now summer hols are almost over thinking what to do next year.

Another abroad holiday ( pricey)
We've enjoyed haven , Butlins and parkdean in the past.

What gems am I missing?
We are based in North West England and he's travel sick 🤢 so the shorter the better distance wise .

Scotland's western isles are lovely. Huge white sand beaches on the west of the isle of Harris, etc.

How good is he with flying? I love the Netherlands and you could fly to Amsterdam, take a train and then cycle or hire a car for shorter trips.

The lake district or is that too close to home? We went this year with our 7 year old and he loved it. He climbed his first 3 wainwrights!

I’d really recommend Duinrell in the Netherlands. It’s close to a beach and there’s loads to do nearby but there’s also enough to do onsite, including a theme park and indoor tropical swimming complex.
Take the Hull to Rotterdam ferry and from the ferry port it’s only a 45min drive.

another vote for the Hull - Rotterdam ferry if you're in the NW, it's not cheap though
The Western Isles of Scotland are one hell of a drive from the NW with a travel sick child! You could do the Ayrshire coast which thankfully remains relatively undiscovered by the hoards of foreign tourists who all head straight to Skye. Lots of nice beaches, and easy to get the ferry over to places like Bute and Cumbrae for day trips.
If you go to Scotland go at the end of your summer school holidays if you can as Scottish kids go back to school around the middle of August so places should be quieter and potentially cheaper.
