Has anyone ever managed to renew a kid’s passport in 48 hours?!?! I really stupidly forgot that my kids passport expired and we literally travel to Disneyland Paris in 3 days… I’m so upset and angry at myself and don’t know what to do at all!! The passport office says the soonest they can do is 1 week 😭😭😭

Beleive the passport office ... they are correct.

Unfortunately its a child trafficking prevention measure.

HollyGolightly4 · 26/08/2025 09:02

Have you got an appointment? It's minimum 2 days after booking to get an appointment and then you wait. My passport with name change came after two days, so if you have an appointment you could get lucky.

If you haven't got an appointment unfortunately it's probably a no go.

misspositivepants · 26/08/2025 09:02

I think that’s your answer unfortunately, not been in the same situation, but I’d maybe call Disney and see about moving your booking?

sending hugs, imagine your feeling so upset, you didn’t do it on purpose

We booked for Newport on Saturday evening and had an appointment for Tuesday lunchtime. Walked out with it. I did the same thing in June when going on holiday. Try Newport for a face to face appointment

If the passport office has already said no to this and told you it takes a week I’m afraid it doesn’t matter what anyone here tell you.

You can’t get kids passports using the office appointment service though.

Spies · 26/08/2025 09:05

Unfortunately the passport office is correct it takes a week to get a child's passport which is sensible to prevent children getting a new passport and taken to another country.

Your best option unfortunately is to try and change the date of your holiday.

fruitbrewhaha · 26/08/2025 09:06

Adults can get an emergency appointment but for children it’s a week. It’s a security thing. So kids can’t be trafficked.

Although one year I sent off for a passport and did get it back two days later. I was amazed but this was a few years back and probably not in the summer.

Your best efforts need to go into changing the dates of your holiday.

For a child’s passport?

Whosaywhatnow · 26/08/2025 09:08

We had this exact same thing - it will not come sooner. A child's passport is different, it will never be less than 1 week due to safeguarding.

We were not aware of this and booked an emergency appointment hoping it would come sooner....she was very apologetic at the appointment but explained there was nothing she could do to speed it up.

You could try to move your holiday back a few days, or book an emergency appointment knowing it will take at least a week to arrive and try and join later with your child, if there is another adult going with other children.

It's an awful feeling, you have my sympathy!

lostinchaos · 26/08/2025 09:17

We got caught out at the airport with only 3 months left on my child's passport and she could not fly. You cannot get an emergency passport / same day appointment for children and we were told it will take a minimum of 2 weeks for a new one, so I didn't bother trying to change flights. As it happened I submitted the application that day and we received the new passport 3 days later... so it's possible you might get it back in time but it will be a roll of the dice!

Florally · 26/08/2025 09:23

I’ve also had my daughters passport back in just a couple of days but it’s just luck as others have said.

Can you push your Disney holiday a few days?

HouseTour · 26/08/2025 09:25

Have you got holiday insurance? I'd move the holiday. The chances of getting a child's passport in that window are negligent.

PaddingtonBunny · 26/08/2025 09:29

This website has current processing times. Not sure if it’s useful or not. https://www.passportwaitingtime.co.uk

Also make sure you use a ‘photo me’ booth for the photo as it’s linked to the passport office with the digital code and apparently speeds things up.

Unfortunately insurance will not cover under these circumstances as you are otherwise all fit and well for travel. Best bet is to plead with wherever you booked the holiday and ask if they can amend the dates by a week or so. Good luck!
