Has anyone been to both and ideally at Christmas. I am booking one night trip and easyJet offer both of these with good flights and times. Not sure which to do for the best Christmas market.

Geneva will be €£€£€£€ more than Krakov if that’s consideration? I’ve only been to Geneva for work and thought it was staggeringly expensive.

Krakow is lovely and meals are not too expensive

Geneva is very expensive but a great place to people watch (rich people). Loads of the jewellery and designer clothes shops don't have any visible prices! It was extremely cold when we went for Christmas a few years back (I think it was -4 during the day and they turned off the fountains because they were all frozen). Really enjoyed our stay but we didn't do any Christmas markets just the regular food market (indoors) and shopping.

Both beautiful but I agree with PPs that your money will go much further in Krakow. What kind of vibe are you looking for?

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/08/2025 20:48

Been to both a few times. Both lovely cities, but as others are saying you will spend a lot more going to Switzerland - Geneva is very expensive. If that’s less of an issue, both are worth a visit, but I’d pick Krakow over Geneva, nicer vibe I think.

As per PPs, both lovely cities but your money will go three times as far in Krakow, plus it is prettier and will look beautiful at Christmastime.

Thanks everyone. This is a gift for my sister’s 50th which is late November. We both love a Christmas market and the whole chocolate tasting experience you can get in Geneva is a plus. Flight times home are equal. Geneva outward is better as there is a second flight just before 10 am. The first flights for Krakow and Geneva are 6 am which means being at the airport for 4.30 which means leaving home at 3.45 am. My fear here is being knackered by late afternoon so missing a whole evening.

Beyond that we like some shopping, a wander and stopping for a hot chocolate or a prosecco. Just generally having time together with no kids, husbands and extended family.
