Holiday for a couple and a family. What are your thoughts on...

I'm in the depths of despair. I can't search anymore.

Next year, dh and I have got one week child free. We would like to go away in April, somewhere hot within 5 hours from UK.

In July, we would like to go on a family holiday (us and 3dc) within the same travel time.

We don't want to spend a small fortune as we have other things planned so as cheap as possible where I can pick an all inclusive and have the best relax ever!

So far have visited: Menorca, Majorca, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Cyprus and Malta with the kids. We don't mind going here again but would like to try somewhere new if possible.

What are your views on:
Turkey, Croatia, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia?

Would you go as a couple or family or avoid? Which areas?

I'm just completely overwhelmed and not getting anywhere fast. By the time I've decided it will be Xmas 2026 and the time will have passed 😆

I’ve been to all of those, except Tunisia. Liked all of them. Went mostly with family except Morocco. And I’d take kids there too. But you want cheap and relaxing… you need to look at current prices carefully. I was shocked at costs in Turkey (2025), but hear that Croatia is now extortionate (we went in 2018 I think).

Thanks for your reply, that's really helpful!
When you say shocked at prices in Turkey, was that a good shocked or bad shocked?

I'm only thinking these because of the heat in April, Spain might not be too warm however I've haven't holidayed in April around here and I'm a bit concerned about temperatures.

I wouldn’t go any of them in July unless you really like it hot! What sort of holiday are you wanting? If you’re looking to stay in an AI resort for a week then where you go matters less than if you want to spend your days sightseeing.

We were paying about £35 a head for dinner including a couple or beers. 3 years ago in Greece it was more £20/25 a head. Turkey had inflation and cost of living is a thing but I thought it was pricey. Bottle of gin in supermarket was €25.

We'd like to go somewhere hot in April but with weather averaging 24ºc, I'm not sure we'll get somewhere!
Thank you, I will rule those out for July as kids like it hot but they are fair skinned and I'm cautious. I will probably look at a Canary Island or Balearic Island.
For both trips, we would like something to see and do but maybe a bit of history for both holidays and maybe somewhere with a fun excursion or two when we're with the kids.

It does seem pricey compared to what I imagined it to be!

with DH you could go to Madeira or (slightly longer) Dubai

We looked into Croatia but it's not really hot in April.

We plan Cyprus, we have been before but only saw a parts of the island so it's not really a repeat visit.

Sicily? Rhodes?

Morocco and Egypt I've done with kids, would do as a couple and will be warm in April.

rainsbows · 19/08/2025 07:48

Cape Verde?

The canaries are further south than the places you list in North Africa and Turkey!!
I went to Madeira at Easter and the weather was quite varied. Nice enough to lie by the pool at times, pleasant for walking around in but we also had torrential rain one morning and gusty winds (but i think they get those all year round).
