UK holiday ideas

Due to health issues, we’ve had to cancel a holiday abroad and are looking for suggestions for a week’s break in the UK (ideally in the south). Where can we go to keep a 7 and 11 year old entertained? Wish list would include a bit of beach and a variety of activities. Any recommendations of places and attractions? Itineraries would be amazing if you have any tried and tested ones!

have you looked at the Isle of Wight? It’s lovely. Since you have to take the ferry to get there it feels much more holiday-y than a lot of places in the U.K. you’ve got wildlife centres, steam railway, the dinosaur isle, fossil hunting, I’d happily spend a week there.

Argh. Just realised there’s a UK travel section. Will try posting there too.

Thanks for the Isle of Wight suggestion! I’m going to have a look at that now

New Forest?

there is a good otter/wildlife place

day trips are possible to places like Portsmouth historic dock, Marwell zoo, Arundel castle (best castle I’ve ever been to)

obviously walking and cycling in the forest.

there are beaches on the south coast I think near Lymington, or go to Bournemouth for the day. You can get to loads of places on the train from brockenhurst inc Bournemouth.

or drive over the Poole chain ferry to Swanage area.

theres a famous car museum place (never been to it)

you could do a day trip to the Isle of Wight as foot passengers but at £25ish a head it’s an expensive day out.

Cornwall is obviously great. Beach, wildlife spotting boat trips, Heligans Garden, Eden Project, rare temporate rainforest, plenty of kids days out, Dartmoor on the way there/back.
