Anyone flown from Birmingham since the liquids rule changed?

Did you just leave liquids in a wash bag in your hand luggage or do you have to take them out?
I bought loads of mini sun creams for our trip but I’m excited just to take one big one 😎

Check where you're flying back from - you might not be allowed larger bottles in hand luggage, or may still require the 1 litre liquids bag on return.

AmandaHoldensLips · 16/08/2025 20:03

You can take any liquids you want provided they are less than 1 litre containers. No limit on how many liquid containers. No need to take them out of bags or anything. New scanners.

Helenloveslee4eva · 16/08/2025 20:04

All very well but watch the limits from your return airport !

sproutsandparsnips · 16/08/2025 21:25

Birmingham is fine just leave them in your luggage but as pp don’t forget to check your return airport - I made that mistake!

Musicaltheatremum · 16/08/2025 23:31

Watch out for mitchum deodorant. It gets picked up as abnormal on the scanners at Edinburgh airport! Other deodorants seem ok. But yes, everything stays in your case.

HelloCheekyCat · 17/08/2025 07:16

I hadn't even thought of the return flight, what a plonker 😆 thanks everyone
We'll probably just take the dregs and bin it before we fly home

@Musicaltheatremum I actually have Mitchum deo so I won't take that!

Why does it matter if the scanner picks it up? Mosquito repellents do as well, will you leave those behind too?

It takes 2 minutes for them to open and wand the bag, can’t imagine going without a product I use just to avoid that

notnorman · 17/08/2025 08:21

At bham they count crystal deodorant as a liquid so count that in your ten.

they also take your bag to one side to check playing cards as it looks weird on the scanner!

I’m assuming you haven’t travelled recently out of Birmingham because there is no limit to liquids now…as long as you don’t carry over 2 litres in one container

sparklystar333 · 17/08/2025 08:35

Allow plenty of time at Bham, we missed our flight last weekend as it took so long to get through. Also a friend missed his flight too on the same day.

We go every month - so that’s good to hear. All my stuff is in my abroad house though so it’s usually just my nice Laura gellar mascara in my bag that might be classed as a liquid!

Was speaking to someone who flew from Birmingham recently and said it was horrendous to get through even with a fast track (however she said fast track was busy but normal security was carnage 🤷‍♀️) 100% check your return airport if you are taking things you won’t get through perfume etc

HelloCheekyCat · 17/08/2025 09:56

I've just booked fast track, we flew from there in the craziness of 2022 and it was well worth paying £18 so I'm happy to pay that again.

@CountryQueen we got stopped a couple.of years ago and the guy was squirting out bits from multiple bottles to test (my expensive Soltan 😆) and we were held up for what seemed like ages so if we are already going to be delayed I'd rather not delay us any more. I need time to buy my Boots meal deal (and find the store now the Big one has shut)

If the delays are due to repeat scans of larger containers don't be surprised if they reinstate the 100 ml limit again. I lost a new standard suncream because I didn't realise new scanners didn't mean no 100 ml restriction.

The 100ml restriction has been lifted now

I flew through Birmingham this month, it was fine, no horrific queues, very quick and easy. Leave all your liquids in your bag, nothing over 2l.

Like others have said, returning may be different. Though I left a limited amount of liquids in my hand luggage and went straight through.

Starlight40 · 17/08/2025 15:16

We flew from Birmingham the other week. No problem, no queues.

LadyAvgeek · 18/08/2025 07:47

Am flying from BHX soon. Pleased to hear security problems better. I pack shampoo etc in zip top plastic bags inside waterproof sponge bag. Solves problem

HelloCheekyCat · 25/08/2025 20:16

In case anyone is interested, we paid for fast track because it was only £6 each but the normal.queue was also.pretty short.
We got stopped so they could test our sun cream and waiting for our turn wiped.out the time.we'd saved in the queue 😆
oh well!
