Travel insurance

Not long arrived on holiday & chatting to DH realise neither of us arranged travel insurance. Panicking as looking at insurance online all ask for day of travel & that’s 3 days ago 😮. Really don’t want to run the risk of something happening then kicking ourselves we didn’t pay the insurance
Anyone know if we can start from today even though we’ve already flown out? I know insurance companies like to wriggle out of paying wherever possible.
Thanks

Google “travel insurance holiday already started” and you’ll find options. They may be expensive and I think there’s a short waiting period for the policy to start. Hopefully you’re in Europe so your GHIC card will cover you for healthcare at least. Apply for it now if you don’t have one.

For instantaneous coverage, one of you could open a FlexPlus account with Nationwide.

Thanks that’s a great idea will look into it if googling doesn’t solve it

Work for a travel insurance company. You can try but if you need to make a claim you will be asked your booking invoice / itinerary showing the dates of travel. So any claim you try and make will be declined. There are some specialist insurance companies that may cover you once you’ve left the UK but it will cost you a lot more.

You wouldn’t be covered under the Nationwide policy either as it states you are only covered for trips “where the journey starts after the account has been opened”.
