I’d love to do this but I am overwhelmed with where to begin planning. Any advice for places to start from people who have done this with similar ages please?

South Africa. UK school summer holidays is the perfect time to see the animals - preferably in the Kruger.
Aardvark Safaris are a great company, who will do you a tailor-made trip, and talk you through it.

It really depends on your budget tbh

Thanks Cynic! I actually saw an advert for Aardvark earlier and have followed them on Instagram, have you used them yourself?

I’m not sure tbh, I assumed I’m looking at £10-15k for a family of 4? Is that the correct ballpark?

Speak to Bushbaby Travel - this is what they do, and they do it really well. We booked through them last year and they couldn’t have been more on-it.

Flights will be a big chunk

If money were no object I would go to Botswana and combine Cape Town and vic falls

with My kids the first safari we did they were 6 and 9 - we did 4 nights in Cape Town and 4 nights in Madikwe. A lot of the lodges there are child friendly and it’s malaria free. Kids had an amazing time and the guides were so good with them.

we’ve also done a self drive round Namibia - can do that to fit your budget but a lot of the trip is the beauty of the place rather than the animals

zimbabwe is amazing and you can get really good value and mix in Victoria falls but some people can be nervous there. I think it might be my favourite place to go though

kenya is also amazing and the game is phenomenal - if you go at this time of year you can hopefully see the migration in the Masai Mara and have a good chance of seeing cats. Places to suit all budgets and you can combine with the beach. Downside is that you can get the dozens of cars around an animal.

Two companies I can recommend:

  • Expert Africa
  • Yellow Zebra Safaris.

Browse their websites for inspiration but don't worry if you don't see what you want (or even don't know what you want!). Contact them and they'll put a holiday together for you based on your budget.

Thanks @Bruisernamethats really helpful to get me started researching.

Money no object I’d choose Botswana as more varied - canoe safari on the delta, game drive then river cruise in chobe finishing at Victoria falls. I’ve got it costed for two people well inside half your budget but we are shipping the motorcycle or renting (whichever works out best) to Windhoek and riding across staying in local places
