Most underrated UK City break?

Where’s a really great city to explore for 2-3 nights? Like the idea of somewhere less obvious than the capitals.

Liverpool. My favourite city. Warm, friendly people and lots to interest everyone.

Glasgow

I like Portsmouth

Town centre with its “fountain of foam”. The dockyards are brilliant, old Portsmouth and hot walls has some unique houses and stunning views, Gunwharf for the outlet shops and restaurants and Southsea with its sea, its castle and haunted theatre.
Just ignore the leery drunks (the locals look after them).

I live in Kendal. I’d hardly describe is as a “city break” 😆

Liverpool

Newcastle. Great city and easy to pop out to the coast e.g. Tynemouth on the metro.

That’s what I had in mind (for transport links and enough to do to fill our time)… but hit me up with anything else!

Wells?

Manchester was a pleasant surprise for me. We went for a gig and I'd expected something very different based on a dreadful documentary about tower blocks from my 1990's geography lessons and a memory of hearing about riots on the news, hadn't really thought much about it as a place to visit.

Lincoln. In our house it's referred to as "Lincoln, surprisingly interesting".

None of those places are ‘underrated’ apart from Durham! They’re all very highly rated.

My vote: Manchester.

Am currently away for the weekend in Chichester - lovely place, pretty cathedral.

Leeds - it’s just a fab city. Particularly if shopping is your thing.

Live fairly local as well , agree . It's turned into a dump sadly .

both have good shopping and eating out opportunities. Both have museums and art galleries. I’d maybe wait for Liverpool until the Tate fully reopens.

both have good transport links so if you wanted to spend a day/half a day out of the city you could do. Little side quest trip to somewhere like Todmorden from Manchester. Crosby beach from Liverpool.
