Venice recommendations

Headed to Venice at end of October. Any recommendations for places to stay? Will go to the main tourist things - is Murano worth doing? Are the water buses easy to work out.

Watching with interest as I have a Venice weekend booked early next year, not much to add yet sorry to piggy back on your question!!

I have, however, heard that Harry's bar is overrated

Venice is quite easy to navigate by water bus. It’s breathtaking arriving down the Grand Canal at dusk. I recommend getting water bus passes for a few days, it’ll work out cheaper and you can hop on, hop off.

The Jewish area is interesting as is Cannaregio, visit the Guggenheim Museum and wander through St Marks Square. You can go in some of the super posh hotels and just have a drink on some amazing terraces. Harry’s Bar is overrated but still worth a visit. It can be expensive but, like all places, look out for the places locals eat at. The Lonely planet and Rough Guides are good to find hidden gems.

You lucky things! Hotel Grand and Monaco is lovely, on the Grand Canal and you can get deals (if you’re really splashing the cash the Danieli is lovely). Personally I love Harry’s bar because it’s not over glam. Cocktails at the Gritti Palace are great, Florian’s in St Marks is lovely for coffee and cake and people watching (inside is beautiful). I love Murano, definitely worth a tour of La Feniche and to go up the Campanile. Above all wander around, maybe take in a Vivaldi concert in a church, and just enjoy. It’s wonderful at that time of year.

I was there last month ! 😀

Happy to help with questions.

My answers my not be apt for your situation... everything helps !

Biggest tip is...
Good footwear and travel light.

We stayed on a water front so our private taxi was able to drop us off right outside the front door of the apartment.

Private taxi from airport is €150 approx per boat .
Think it takes 5 .
Extra PP are £pp then.

We were 4 with just backpacks so the extra luggage...I didn't take notice of.

We bought a 48 hour vaperetto ticket which took us to all the islands over 2 days.

Venice is walkable...even for someone as unfit as me !

But you need the vaperetto to get to the islands .
It is €25 for 24 hours or €35 for 48 .
For an extra €10 it was worth having the extra morning.

Cheabeto app is the easiest way to navigate your times and stops.

If you are not use to city travel , tubes and changing lines and stuff ,, it might seem confusing.
But it really isn't !

They do all connect somehow !

And they are soo punctual 😅😅.

I don't want to influence your choices ..but happy to give my view on things !
