Crete

We’ve been to lots of the other islands but not to Crete, can anyone recommend a nice place to go? It’s so big and I’d like to go to a traditional part if possible. Nothing like Malia.

Adult only hotel recommendations would be great too. Thanks.

Chania is lovely. The peninsula next to it is also lovely too.

Almyrida and Kalyves are smaller seaside towns with beaches, restaurants, cafes etc. Family friendly but we went with dd and a friend who were both over 18.

I can’t help with accommodation as we’ve always stayed in self catering villas - there are some fabulous places to rent!

Yep second Chania, lovely old town. We stayed round the bay in almyrida area, lovely. Quite quiet, lovely for a villa chill out holiday. Did the Samaria gorge walk - absolute highlight, booked through Get Your Guide whilst there.
Would do back again and this time check out Elafonissi beach which we didn’t have time for and if venturing east would do Spinalonga island.

Food amazing, people lovely. Enjoy!

I enjoyed Chania too - it has the Venetian harbour area, lovely cobbled streets and a decent beach.

Chania is lovely and I’ve stayed at Domes Noruz Chania which is adult only and on the beach with some good tavernas nearby

aigios nikolas or elounda both lovely. Do the boat trip to spinalonga from there - it’s fascinating

I’ve been looking at that one

I’ll check out all these areas. Thank you everyone.

We enjoyed Rethymnon, it's quite lively, but built around the old town centre, and as it's where the university is based, lots of reasonably-priced bars and eateries. We stayed at the Hotel Ideon, a smaller family-run hotel. On a main bus route, with beaches nearby. I recommend taking the Land Rover tour where they take small groups on less accessible roads up into the mountains and include lunch at a taverna.
