Name change as info is potentially outing. popping on to see if the hive mind can help.

We had a holiday sorted for the last week of August but it has sadly fallen through. Supposed to be with friends who now can’t go, kids are gutted as they are good friends with the kids we should have been going with.

Can anyone help suggesting anywhere, I’ve got complete decision paralysis and have been at it for days.

2 kids (6&8) are happiest when allowed to have lots of free unstructured play time, running around, swimming, on the beach, through woods, waterslides etc.

Self catering and close to somewhere what has lots of amenities, restraunts, family nightlife etc

More than happy to do a Eurocamp or similar we did one last year and loved it but it’s all booked up (union lido)

Ideally Italy or South of France any recommended accommodation or places to look would be greatly appreciated. Budget including flights we are looking at below 4k. Hoping to book for the last week in August.

If anyone can help with my holiday indecision I would be greatly appreciative!

Budget is important

Roothewheel · 08/08/2025 15:23

Go to where you had been going? Even if in different accommodation

SchoolDilemma17 · 08/08/2025 15:25

You will find Italy is very busy in August. Flights for 3 at this late stage can easily cost you £1k and more. I think you need to check what is free and what cheap flights you can get vs what people recommend.
lots of eurocamp style places on Lake Garda (flights to Verona).

Silverbirchleaf · 08/08/2025 15:27

Center parcs - cheaper than the Uk ones.

Roothewheel · 08/08/2025 15:31

Sorry seen budget below £4k including flights
ok so availability at the nice places will be very limited but if you’re willing to make compromises… then should be able to do it at a push

Italy though…. Very unlikely

flights will be… pricey

I just did a quick search on the TUI website for 7 nights leaving from London with a total.pruve if £4k
51 results. Lots will be too resorty but there's a good number by the lakes in Italy and plenty on the beach
Just a thought if you are desperate for ideas.

DiscoBeat · 08/08/2025 15:59

We went to Eurocamp Villanova in Barcelona (in one of their chalets) at those exact ages. They loved it and still talk about the memories now nearly 10 years later. The park was brilliant but also Barcelona itself with Camp Nou and Segrada etc.

Can you link to one in Italy for under 4k that meets OP’s reqs?

Ionacat · 08/08/2025 16:34

Flights to Milan are just over £1k for the week you want (it’s cheaper than flying into Verona) and there are several Eurocamp style places on Lake Garda with availability for your budget with flights - you could cross check direct with the site and places like Roan. If you join unofficial eurocamp supporters on Facebook, you can get latest reviews.

It’s not South of France or Italy but have a look at the Cala D’Or Playa apartments in Mallorca. I think it’s Jet2 that fly there now.

Some of the best holidays we had as a young family was there. They’re in walking distance of two lovely, safe beaches and Cala D’Or itself has some really nice restaurants and a harbour to spend the evenings.

Menorca is beautiful too.

Tui Magic Life Calabria - 7 nights end of Aug for 2 adults 2 kids AI - £3874 from Gatwick.

MissAmbrosia · 08/08/2025 20:51

For a 2 bed family room

MissAmbrosia · 08/08/2025 20:56

Also TUI - Unahotels Naxos Sicily - 26th Aug for a 2 bed family room HB - £3800

MissAmbrosia · 08/08/2025 20:58

Ah missed self- catering. Normally look at Skyscanner.net for your dates to see possible locations - then go to booking dot com and look for accommodation.

SunnyWishesto · 08/08/2025 21:36

Find your flights first then you can look for accommodation. Last week in August in France usually cheaper as their kids back at school. I use Google maps to find campsites then look to book direct with the site their own accommodation. Tell us your flight locations and I’m sure we can find some good options.

That’s cheaper than May half term next year.

I put your dates into Booking dot com for Lac de Serre Poncon in south of France - an area we’ve holidayed in for years. It’s a 2 hour drive from marseille airport or a 9 hour drive from Calais. Lots of self catering options pop up which would be within your budget. Lots of fun around the lake, the river and in surrounding ski resorts. Our kids have always loved it. We have a house in the area (not available that week) so do DM me if you’d like any info.

Sorry see you asked for Italy specifically.
I put in “ 3 days +/-“ Italian lakes are 28th which may not work if Op wants the kids in school for 3rd ( ours have InSET) or they are teachers.

Sorry for late to come back! Had an unexpectedly eventful 23 hours! Checking through them now!

Lots of Eurocamp type places in northern Spain - Costa Dorada and Costa Brava. Plenty set in/near woodland, obviously near the coast, just check the location but most are fairly close to amenities especially if you don't mind a walk of up to 20-30 minutes.

Perhaps start by seeing which flights are best for you - Girona, Barcelona or Reus and then what's nearby? Good time of year too - sea warm, weather hot but not too hot.
