Pisa airport - arrivals experience

Has anyone been to Pisa airport recently? If so is passport control like Gatwick in that everyone can uses the biometric lanes? We recently went to Spain as a family and all families had to go to a separate queue as under 18s couldn’t use the biometric system. DS who is 17 will be joining us in Pisa later this month. He’s travelling alone for the first time so I just want to be able to advise him to either go with the herd or find the family/ under 18 queue. Many thanks

He's 17, the signs will be bilingual English/Italian, he can work it out when he gets there surely?

I went in April and honestly can’t remember, I think it was biometric but it was very fast and efficient I know that. No huge queues.

British passport holders can't use biometrics at Pisa afaik. This was true a couple of months ago, and I don't think the announced changes to allow UK passports to use the gates in EU have come into effect in Italy.

I went in April and it was hectic , the queue was up to where you got off the buses and passport control was very slow. We missed our connecting train .

I went in July, it’s a standard queue for non Europeans. Standard non biometric passport control. Wasn’t long. Very efficient. This was the Gatwick flight.

Isn't this standard now - no e-gates for non EU?

Thank you so much for your help. I’m struggling a bit at the moment with a number of things related to the trip and on the domestic front. I hadn’t even thought that we are going out two days before and our son is joining us, so we will know where he has to queue as we will have done it ourselves!! 🤣 We will prepare to queue though, so thank you.

They have announced a deal enabling them for Brits across the EU but I think won't be put in place in most countries until the autumn
