Hi all,

Nervous, untech flyer here so I want to ensure we all have stuff to watch on a short trip. Im very untech myself but id like to download some series' for myself to see, then kids stuff for them from Netflix/Disney. But im struggling to see how it works without wifi. I have a tablet whereas kids have laptops. Could also bring a Nintendo switch if needed but can this work without wifi?. But the last thing I want is to get on and nothing to work. I've downloaded some shows for myself on Netflix and Disney just now but won't i need to login/need wifi on the plane to get onto the site?

You can log into Netflix and Disney without Wifi or data. You'll just be limited viewing the downloaded shows.

To test it, just turn off your WiFi on the tablet/laptop (wherever you've downloaded the programs), and see that you can login and view the downloads.

How short a trip? Is it worth the faff of taking multiple laptops and tablets?! 😬

Soontobe60 · 06/08/2025 07:08

If you download Netflix you can only view it for a limited time. I downloaded a series when I went away a couple of weeks ago. On the return flight I couldn’t view it as the download had expired!
On a short flight, you’re likely not to need tablets to entertain the kids - just enjoy the actual flight. Chat to them, look out of the window, get a snack from the trolley. Time flies!

We take tablet and laptops with us even for a 3 day trip. I hate using my phone for more than social media.

It's hardly a big thing. But we also travel for work so we are used to it.

@Eesha I would get the Netflix app for your laptop and tablet and download it there. It can be watched without wifi.

Op we do this alot. On the device you need to download what you want, it’s not interchangeable between devices, you need to download on each device. Disney is a bit easier. Netflix depends on your plan and you can have limits on downloads so longer movies are better if your limited to 10 downloads this goes quickly for a 10min kids show.

Disney for example (screen shots included but will need to be approved first by MN). Find your show, click the download button and then it will appear in the download section at the bottom. In there if it’s fully downloaded you get the rectangle with the tick. An ! Means it’s not downloaded. It’s worth double checking as sometimes ours haven’t worked or partially downloaded. Netflix is very similar but has a shorter life for downloads and expire (valid for 3-7 days) while Disney lasts longer and doesn’t seem to expire as quickly.

Netflix doesn’t download on a laptop only a tablet unfortunately. Not sure about Disney plus though.

WasherWoman25 · 06/08/2025 07:19

Actually that’s a lie, you can but have to install the app via the windows App Store. You can’t download from the web version.

WasherWoman25 · 06/08/2025 07:20

Just looked up Disney + unfortunately that is app download only so just on phones / tablets.

Eesha · 06/08/2025 07:25

@WasherWoman25 thank you so much for this, so i might then watch Disney on my tablet and kids can do netflix on their chromebooks. The slight worry is things expiring. Should I download just before trip? I wanted to do a series like the bear but does that mean 10 downloads for a season?

My DC did it the night before the trip.

@Eesha what we did was download on the phones from Apple TV (you can do tablet too)
you can search for anything you like, rent it out and then download. Once you start watching it lasts for 2 days x

Hi, just wanted to remind you that if you’re in the U.K., you can download shows from iPlayer free and the downloads are available for a few months.
