Coming back from Como/Milan - how to fill the day

We have slightly cocked up the timings of our return to IuK on Saturday. Have to leave apartment in Como by 10 but flight from Milan Linate isn't till 20:30. It's going to be 30 degrees, we will have luggage with us. What to do all day ?

Changing flight is ££££. About to check with Owner if we can check out later - but I suspect the answer will be no.

Any ideas most welcome for a solution.

Will you have a hire car?

Asabat · 05/08/2025 20:33

No car.

Find a left luggage place and then take a look around Milan. The Duomo is impressive. I visited La Scala and I don't remember booking but you might need to. The Last Supper is in Milan. Get gelato in La Galeria. Maybe visit the San Siro if you can.

Lots of shops round Milan Centrale offer left luggage facilities. They literally have boards outside with QR codes you scan to leave the luggage.

@SwedishEdith ww did the Duomo and all 7 billion steps to the terrace on Monday on the way in! I really wanted to see the Last Supper, but it was booked out when I looked.

Good tips on leaving luggage - thanks.

I'd try and get to Monza for a wander around, very doable if you can leave your luggage there somewhere. Monza is 40 minutes by train from Como, and Milan Centrale is a short journey (15mins) from Monza.

Worth having a look at, since you have seen Milan already.

Did you love love love Como? One of my favourite towns. No car? So are you travelling by train back to Milan? If so leave the luggage at the station and "fare una passagiata" round the lake. Lots of opportunities to have a coffee, ice cream, see the boat planes.

@socialdilemmawhattodo Como is gorgeous, just discovering it this week - we have been watching the boat planes! Did you mean leave the bags at Como St Giovanni?

We basically need to fill 10 - 5 in the heat! Monza sounds like a good option !

Can you go over to lake Maggiore via Milan Centrale?
