There are the standard tourist destinations (see any guide) - beyond that it depends on your interests and preferences.
Nature is not NY 's strong suit (!!!) but you could visit Central Park and Riverside Park as well as Fort Tryon Park uptown where the Cloisters are.

NYC has so many things to do, many of the well trodden tourist hotspots are fantastic, and I’d try to hit as many as those as I could. As mentioned above, nature isn’t usually top of the list, but Central Park is huge, the Highline is an urban green space, Battery Park, Washington Square Gardens and Bryant Park are all smaller green spaces.

My personal must do’s are:
•the parks mentioned above
•top of the rock
•9/11 museum and memorial
•boat trip on the Hudson to take in the sky line (the commuter ferry is a cheap way to do this)
•ice cream in Brooklyn (just over the Brooklyn bridge there’s a couple of ice cream places. From there you can sit and admire Brooklyn)
•Grand Central Terminal (good food hall on the lower floors)
•a walking tour of the east village/greenwich
•Chelsea market
•financial district

I don’t think you can go wrong in NYC though, there’s something to see around every corner. Enjoy!
