chatted to someone today who was doing it - have never heard of it before (what a turnip) but sounds exciting. Pros and cons from anyone?

Did it years ago on last teenage holiday with my parents. Was pretty good and less tiring than driving all the way to the Dordogne. The train valets slightly damaged the wing of the car when loading it and we got a more than generous settlement!

Cons - only offered from small number of stations, so may not suit your destination.

We did it 14 years ago, from Calais to Nice.

The biggest downnside was the price.

We left the car in the train yard in Calais at around 4pm, and boarded around 6.30pm.

We had a six-bedded couchette, which we shared with two strangers. I was PG at the time and had my own stash of food, which turned out to be essential - there was no food service on the train. They did give us breakfast vouchers for the station hotel in Nice, which we used as we waited for the car to be unloaded.

Our car was fine, but we did notice a couple that had lost their back windows.

It was great being in our resort 24 hours after leaving home.

We used to do it every simmer when I was a child.

It was better than driving but we never got a wink of sleep, it was very cramped and we always fell out.
